Craig Applegath:  Craig is a founding member of ResilientCity.org, and a pioneer in the field of urban resilience. Craig is also an Architect and Principal at Cohos Evamy Integratedesign in Toronto. Since graduating from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University with a Master of Architecture in Urban Design he has built a considerable track record leading complex institutional design projects, but is best known for his advocacy of sustainable building design. A passionate advocate for developing design solutions that make sense in a world of peak oil and climate change, Craig lectures on sustainable design and urban resilience in Canada and United States. Craig was a founding Board Member of Sustainable Buildings Canada, and is a current member of the Canadian Green Building Council. Craig is also a past President of the Ontario Association of Architects, and was made a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada for his services to the profession. Earle Arney:  Earle is a Global Board Member of Woods Bagot, and is considered by his clients and peers to be a global leader in sustainable design. Earle enjoys an international record of achievement in a wide range of architecture and masterplanning projects. He is a graduate of Harvard University and has applied his design skills on a range of award and competition winning projects worldwide. Earle is based in London and currently works across Europe, Australasia, USA, and the Middle East. Noted as a Thought Leader in Environmental Sustainability, and Work Place and Urban Design; Earle has lectured extensively and is a regular speaker on the subject of sustainability internationally.  His research papers focus on the business case for environmental sustainability and a global perspective of What’s Next in Sustainability? David Fitzpatrick: David is a retail and mixed use development consultant with Thomas Consultants Inc., a development consulting firm which specializes in retail and mixed use projects. David has worked on dozens of projects across Canada and the US, as well as in China, Korea, India, Russia, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In addition to his expertise in retail and mixed use planning, David is now developing analytical approaches to better understand how to increase retail resilience to future potential impacts of energy transition and peak oil. David completed an undergraduate planning degree at the University of Toronto, a master's at Queen's School of Urban and Regional Planning, and is currently a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.  In his spare time David enjoys travelling, reading, and is actively involved in a charity he founded which supports post-secondary education in East Africa.


Antonio Gómez-Palacio:  Antonio is a founding partner at The Office for Urbanism, in Toronto. Antonio’s professional experience and research have focused on the intersection of architecture, planning and urban design, having worked on a wide range of urban projects and master plans focused on urban intensification, mixed-use, community economic development, sustainable development and heritage matters, as facilitated through participatory processes. Antonio’s work is characterized by the creation of compelling and implementable visions, employing innovative, cross-disciplinary designs and policy tools. Antonio has international experience, having worked in Canada, the United States, China, the Middle East, Mexico, Hong Kong and Greece. Antonio is a respected and award winning urban designer. He has acted as the Chair of the Toronto Society of Architects, as well as a juror, guest critic and lecturer for national and international institutions. See his full Biography.


Peter Howard:  Peter is a contributor to the ResilientCity online community and currently a manager with the PricewaterhouseCoopers Climate Change and Sustainability practice. Peter has extensive experience helping organizations develop a strategic response to climate change, including emissions inventories, energy management, emission reduction plans, carbon market analysis, and carbon reduction project development.. Prior to joining PwC, Peter worked for Zerofootprint, Inc, where he helped found and develop an international climate change consulting practice. Peter received his Masters of Environmental Studies degree from York University in Toronto, where he studied sustainable business, climate change, and ecological economics. Peter’s undergraduate degree was a combined honours BSc in Marine Biology and Contemporary Studies from the University of Kings College in Halifax, Nova Scotia.


Lyle Scott:  Lyle is the Director of Sustainable Design at Cohos Evamy Integratedesign, and a Mechanical Engineer with fifteen year’s experience specializing in energy efficiency, and sustainable development. Lyle has authored research papers on various energy and sustainable technologies for a diverse executive audience. He is a Member of the Canada Green Building Council’s LEED® Management Committee, LEED® Homes Technical Committee, and has served on several other CaGBC committees including the Technical Advisory Group, Core and Shell Task Force and the Durable Building’s Task Force. Lyle has played an instrumental leadership role in several sustainability “firsts” including the first CaGBC multi-residential building (Radiance, LEED®-NC Silver) and the first CaGBC Gold certified high rise multi-residential building (Minto Roehampton, LEED®-NC Gold). Having worked both as the facility manager of the Hospital for Sick Children, and as a developer, Lyle’s past experience provides a well-rounded perspective on energy efficiency and sustainable design.


Brian Watkinson:  Brian is Principal of Strategies 4 Impact!, a professional service firm delivering highly-valued strategic advice and support to businesses and owners in the building design and construction sector. An architect, Brian earned his professional degree at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture during the "energy crisis" of the 1970's. After leading his architectural practice through the 1980's, Brian joined the staff of the Ontario Association of Architects where he honed his strategic facilitation skills as its Executive Director. Well known today as a strategist, thinker, writer and speaker, Brian's interest in resilient cities centres around the enormous impact that the twin challenges of climate change and peak oil must have on our cities, our buildings and on the industry that designs, constructs and maintains them. Brian initiates and supports strategic initiatives at the macro level across the sector, including among key private and public owners. And, he continues to guide individual design and construction businesses in developing their unique strategies to face the challenges - and seize the opportunities - we'll see in the years to come.
