Traditional and innovative technologies are used for the decision of a problem of environmental contamination.

  • Additional gardening (a spruce fir, a Canadian maple, a Canadian poplar, a trumpet honeysuckle) makes positive impact on quality of air
  • Noise barrier of polycarbonate along the Communistic avenue protect for harmful influence of noise.
  • Barriers with vertical gardening protect a housing estate and environment for harmful influence of gases


  • Lawn lattices on parkings also improve air.


  • Columns of shelters are ventilating apertures. Moving buses create a powerful wave of air. The dust and gases get to the ventilating chamber through these apertures and exhaust convector clears air. Thus, the hotbed effect decreases.



  • The multipurpose flat shelter is a zone of rest for passengers and visitors of business centre.



  • Rain water from shelters gathers in the tank and is used in the technical purposes.
  • PVC material is used for a covering of platforms. There are tectonic blocks under this covering . They react to step-by-step loading. (Crowd Farm this invention of graduates MIT James Graham and Thaddeus Jusczyk). Electric energy is accumulated and used for illumination on a night-time.


  • Power saving up light sources are used for illumination on a night-time .



  • The facade of an existing building is reconstructed. It is system of ventilated facades and vertical gardening (a cowberry ordinary).



  • Self-cleared glass is used in connection with the raised pollution of a facade (Pilkington Activ™). This glass of neutral colouring with a special covering provides self-cleaning for organic pollution.
  • I have designed a monument which is devoted to exhaustible Earth resources. It attract attention of townspeople to an environmental contamination problem.

The basic analogues at bus terminal designing were Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco (Cesar Pelli) and a building of a boutique Ann Demeulemeester in Seoul (Mass Studies). Also I have studied the receptions of vertical gardening patented by the botanist and the designer Patrick Blanc.

The factory project on manufacture of boats Factoreef (Studio Lynn) has served as analogue for columns of a translucent shelter and of a flat shelter. Also bus terminal RATP in the city of Tais, France (architectural bureau ECDM) was one of analogues.


My prospection

I considered set of conditions at designing of the new general plan:

  • location of bus terminal;
  • the importance for townspeople;
  • protection against harmful influence of a dust, gas and noise;
  • differentiation of transport and pedestrian streams;
  • convenient entrance to a building and the organization of parkings;
  • pedestrian availability considering requirements for invalids and pensioners;
  • use of underground space for a parking;
  • attraction of attention of inhabitants to an environmental contamination problem.

Thus, the rational general plan of bus terminal has been designed with the semiring traffic plan. There is a platform of arrival of passengers and 3 platforms of departure with translucent shelters (everyone on 6 buses). There is buses park on the one hand, and there are additional platforms for fixed-route taxis opposite. There is a coach park on 18 buses and a repair platform.

Also there is a seven-story business centre, city exhibition gallery, recreation area in a southern and western part of terminal, shops in a northern part, a recreation area at level of 5,5 metres which simultaneously is a shed for a parking and exhibition gallery.

There is a parking of a taxi and a parking for personal transport (68 parking places). There is a parking on 48 parking places near to the market. The two-level automated underground parking on 240 places is designed for workers of business centre.

I have analysed the existing general plan of bus terminal and have revealed many defects.

  • First, the bus terminal is practically in city centre, within a housing estate. The green sanitary-protective zone is insufficient for protection against exhaust gases.
  • Secondly, in station territory there are many haotically located retail outlets which are a constant source of environmental contamination and insanitary conditions.
  • The station area is used irrationally, bus and passenger streams are constantly crossed. For an individual transport entrance should be forbidden.
  • The city develops and the quantity of passengers increases, thus the building of bus terminal does not meet capacity requirements.
  • Conditions for invalids and pensioners are not provided.
  • There is no system of visual communications on platforms and in a building.
  • The building requires major repairs. It is necessary to create premises for administration, arrivals and departures of passengers and as to create conditions for rest of passengers.
  • For an individual transport uncomfortable parking is used. There is no parking for a taxi.


Full reconstruction of territory and the building is necessary. It is necessary to increase capacity of a building to 300 persons and to increase throughput to 72 buses/in hour.

Bus terminal in Kopeysk

The bus terminal is unique and large enough transport knot in Kopeysk. It serves interurban and urban routes.

The building of bus terminal is constructed in 1974 and since then there were no major repairs.

Traffic capacity of bus terminal is 45 buses/in hour. In total there are 33 bus routes. City routes share on northern and southern, from interurban routes the most loaded is the route Kopeysk-Chelyabinsk.

According to the general plan of a development of the city, the Communistic avenue lasts to settlement Potanino, and becomes one of city highways.

Object of designing is the bus terminal in Kopeisk.

Kopeysk is a satellite town of a big city of Chelyabinsk. The city is based in 1907. It is located in Southern Ural Mountains, borders on the city of Chelyabinsk in its southeast part. According to 2007 here lives 140 thousand inhabitants. A city total area - 168 square kilometres, its extent from the northeast on the southwest more than 65 km.

The coal-mining industry and mechanical engineering was the basic branch of economy till 90th years of 20 centuries. Now all mines are closed, in connection with poor quality of coal and high cost of its extraction.

Last years Kopeysk turns to a city with diversified economy. In a city it is registered more than 1000 industrial enterprises and more than 7000 private businessmen. Habitation building is actively conducted.

Reorganization of bus terminal

Object of designing is the bus terminal in Kopeysk.

Reorganization of the terminal and the architectural environment depended on features of a site of designing. The bus station is located in the city centre, there is a housing estates around bus terminal. The bus terminal is a source of a dust, noise and exhaust gases. Therefore at designing there were serious problems. The main task was to save environment from harmful influences. It was necessary to create the multipurpose transport and public centre which is not harming to environment.

It was necessary to design the multipurpose transport and public centre, to create new workplaces, to create conditions for rest of townspeople and city visitors. One more important condition was to pay attention of townspeople to environmental contamination problems.

The main method of designing is introduction of green technologies.
