THE PROJET IS LOCATED IN A CENTRAL AVENUE IN BURGOS, SPAIN. I HAVE CHOSEN THIS PLACE AS IT EXEMPLIFIES THE TYPICAL SPANISH CITY WHERE STREETS ARE CARS + PARKING + CARS + … + PEOPLE? IT'S TIME TO RE-EVALUATE THE FUNDAMENTAL STRUCTURE OF THE CITY ALONGSIDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A NEW DENSER SUBURBAN GRAIN TO CREATE A TRUE RESILIENT CITY. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT CONSISTS IN MAKE AN EFFICIENT AVENUE WITHOUT RENOUNCING TO CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE. REDUCTION OF NON-RENEWABLE PRIMARY ENERGY EMBODIED IN CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS. USE OF LOCAL MATERIAL.

THE PROJECT DEALS WITH THE PROBLEM OF TODAY'S GROWING URBAN POPULATION: MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE MOVING TO MAJOR CITIES, AN ISSUE THAT RAISES A LARGE DEMAND IN ACCOMMODATION PROJECTS HAVING TO BE PLANNED AND BUILT IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. CONVENTIONAL PLANNING STARTS AS A ZONING PLAN, CHOOSING A SITE PLANNED AS HOUSING, ON THE MOST EXTREME CASE: CREATING BOXES AS HOUSES, AND GIVING OUT ONE PUBLIC SPACE AROUND AND INSIDE THE BUILDING WHOSE SIZE IS SET ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF RESIDENTS. THIS KIND OF PLANNING RAISES A LOT OF PROBLEMS: BIG LAND CONSUMPTION.

IT EXPLORES THE NOTION OF MERGE AND CENTRALIZATION OF GROUND LIVING SPACES. AND IT ALLOWS FOR A NEW HYBRID SYSTEM TO DEVELOP OVER TIME AND IN PHASES. THIS RESILIENT STRATEGY STRENGTHENS THE ECOLOGY, MITIGATES THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, PROVIDES A SAFE HAVEN, OFFERS YEAR AROUND CROP PRODUCTION AND CREATES NEW EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

THE BIG WOOD FLOOR HAS COMMON AND RECREATIONAL AREAS TO IMPROVE THE SOCIAL RELATIONS BETWEEN PEOPLE. ALSO, PERMEABLE PAVING SAVE THE RECYCLING WATER TO RE-USE IN IRRIGATION AND IT'S A PERFECT PLACE FOR PLANTING OF NEW GREEN SPACES

THE AVENUE IS A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN SPEND THEIR LEISURE TIME
WOOD STREET CORRIDOR: WITHOUT CARS ON THE ROAD, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO CREATE A SYSTEM OF TRULY SHARED NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS. THIS PLAN PROPOSES HIDING THE ASPHALT FROM THE ROADS TO CREATE A NATURAL LANDSCAPE OF WOOD - TREES – PEOPLE

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS: IMPROVES SOIL STRUCTURE TO HOLD WATER, INCREASES BIODIVERSITY BY USING AGRICULTURAL LAND NOT ONLY TO GROW FOOD BUT AS HABITATS FOR INSECTS AND BIRDS, SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCES USE OF FOSSIL FUELS, CONVERTS BLACK AND GRAY WATER INTO POTABLE WATER.

URBAN SYSTEM BUILD ON THESE PUBLIC SPACES INCREASE ACCESS TO FRESH FOOD, EMPLOYMENT, AND PUBLIC REALM.
NEW PRODUCTION, PROCESSING, DISTRIBUTION, CONSUMPTION AND WASTE FACILITIES ARE INTRODUCED AS CLOSED LOOP SYSTEMS IN SUPPORT OF OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD FACILITIES OR INFRASTRUCTURES.

THE METHOD CHOSEN IN ORDER TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM IS CREATING A MECHANISM OF GROWING ARCHITECTURE AS A PLANNING TOOL. IT'S A PART OF BURGOS, WHERE THERE IS A BIG DENSITY BUT WE CAN`T FIND ANY PUBLIC PLACE (GARDENS, PARKS, MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES, SPORTS CENTERS,…). SO, I MAKE A BOX GAME WHERE WE CAN FIND THESE SERVICES.
